چکیده مقاله:

A carbothermal reaction process was used to synthesize nano-sized silicon carbide particles. Fabrication of these nanostructured materials with controlled scale of production has been a major challenge in material science and engineering. In this research, silicon carbide nanowires were synthesized in a conventional high temperature tube furnace thermal treatment of carbon fibers without using catalyst, where carbon nanofibers were used as templates. The micro and nano scale carbon fibers were placed in graphite crucible together with SiO2 powders, and were heated for 90 minute at 1400-1700 under flow of argon atmosphere. In this process, SiO2 and CO vapors form upon heating; the reaction of which yield SiC nanowires with graphite coating. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were used to study the effect of treatment temperature on the shape and quantity of the SiC nanowires. In addition to a well-ordered structure, the SiC nanowires synthesized in our process have a uniform structure. TEM micrographs also showed the core/shell structure. Results indicate that with increasing the treatment temperature, the efficiency of the process increases
