The Role and Function of Virtual Communication in Urban Public Spaces Through Social Sustainable Development

Social sustainable interpretations emphasizes the justice and the equality of social rights thus the gradual developments of the cities with the stable patterns of civic commitments could be improved. One of the important results of the World Congress on Communication for Development (WCCD) is that there is no pattern of universal development, which leads to the sustainability of the society and sustainability is a dialectical process , which is multi –faceted and complementary that could be different from society to society , community to community and context to context. Virtual communications with providing the collaborative contexts and increasing the social interactions create the favourable context to achieve sustainable development but one of the challenges that modern humans face today is the gap between the virtual world and the reality in his place. The aim of this article is to observe the proper social structures in the public spaces as the infra-structure to the intersection of the virtual spaces with the real communities in order to mention the communication not only as the media or the message but also in the web of social affiliations. It is a descriptive survey research with the review of documentary studies and the case study of Laleh Park in Tehran to understand how virtual communication through mass media can impact on civic activities and increasing the social interaction in public spaces of the city to achieve social sustainability.
