چکیده مقاله:

Logical marker as an important means of making the text more coherent influences the reader's understanding of the text as well as establishing a relationship between writers and readers. This study aimed to analyze the differences in the use and frequency of different categoriesoflogical markers in research article (RA) abstracts and compare them across gender. To this purpose, 60 RA abstracts authored by Iranian academic writers (30 abstracts authored by males, 30 authored by females) wererandomly selected. Examining manually the occurrences of different categories of logical markers, the Chi-square test was used to explore the significance of differences between the two groups. The findings showed that both groups of academic writers preferred to construct their abstracts by adding justification rather than making contrast. It was found that both men and women employed about 90% of logical markers in the form of Additives. The results revealed that there was no significant difference in the use and the frequency of logical markers between males and females' abstracts. This study, however, stressed the more attention to the importance of logical markers in writing a coherent text.
