چکیده مقاله:

The British Romantic era was an age of imagination the power of which, as a backlash against the Neo-classic concept of reason, takes the place of all those previous literary conventions. Imagination, as the motto of the Romantic period, was theorized differently by different poets; how the free power of imagination can be categorized at all is just one of those unsolved paradoxes of this paradoxical era. Samuel Taylor Coleridge is one of the most prominent literary men of his time who was not only a great poet but also a great theorist of poetry. Coleridge compiles his views regarding poetry and imagination, in his Biographia Literaria and we can follow the traces of these theories in his poems too. This paper is an attempt to apply some of Coleridge’s theories to one of his poems namely, Dejection: An Ode” which embraces different layers of imagination in itself. Coleridge, as a poet with a sharp imagination, reveals new aspects of this esemplastic power to his audience
