چکیده مقاله:

There is no doubt that relationship between architecture and natural environment is so important, and this relationship is extremely depended to climatic conditions. The vast part of Iran is situated in tropical climate zone, which its southern region is ended to hot and humid climate. So, always in establishing of different buildings, attention to these conditions has been considered by architects. This article considers a new thought for architecture which includes discussion about designing of buildings with detailed studies of situation, climate, vernacular building materials, particularly solar radiation. This kind of thinking helps to be able to benefit from potential environmental energies. The old vernacular architecture of Iran has had strong relationship with features of solar radiation usage and tropical climate regions. Unfortunately the incorrect reliance on fossil energy has made us away from such a thought. Passive solar systems have had simple and applied methods that need small or negligible maintenance. Also, these systems do not require any external energy input, so do not produce environmental pollution. This article investigated the indigenous architectural solutions using passive solar systems for hot and humid climate of Iran's cities.
