چکیده مقاله:

The cultural landscape of bam is the combined works of nature and man, illustrative of theevolution of human society and settlement over time. Bam also represents a relic landscape,which bears exceptional and even unique archaeological evidence for the evaluation of thebuilding construction and land use of the Central Desert area of Iranian High Plateau. Thecultural landscape of Bam has suffered from various hazards, including the major earthquake of2003 and its consequent impact on various aspects such as water, agriculture, industry, builtheritage, and the natural environment which presents various problems today. In this respect, thispaper aims to investigate barriers that impact on the sustaining of Cultural Landscape of Bamand also, to provide recommendations to overcome the obstacles. To obtain required informationof the study focus groups, in-depth interviews and review of bibliographical sources anddocuments were used. The results reveal that managerial problems, social problems anduncontrolled development are the major barriers to sustaining cultural landscape of Bam.Therefore, the entirety of the Cultural Landscape must be conserved and managed to protect itsoutstanding universal value by providing an integrated territorial management approach. Theimplementation of this approach requires an effective coordination between the variousstakeholders, and with involving the local community in the decision-making process.
