Comparative evaluation of antioxidant activity of Stachys lavandulifolia from two areas of Iran

In this research Antioxidant activity of the floral branches of Stachys lavandulifolia growing in the wild in two areas of Iran were evaluated. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging potential of the plant methanol extracts were evaluated as a measure of their antioxidant properties. In DPPH test, extracts of the plant (Kashan area: IC50=121±11 μg/ml and Borujen area: IC50=116±9 μg/ml) exhibited weak radical-scavenging activities in comparison with synthetic standard antioxidant BHT (IC50 = 22±1μg/ml). Low antioxidant activity of the plant extracts may bea consequence of their low phenolic compounds contents (Kashan area: 56.58 μg/mg and Borujen area: 61.30 μg/mg) reflected in the plant.
