The layout an oil and gas processing installation shall such that it fulfils the requirements imposed by consideration of safety within installing itself and also of risks resulting from industrial activity, either routine operation or abnormal event, on areas surrounding the facilities and the population living there, if any. Therefore, appropriate siting and layout establishes a foundation for safe and secure site. Application of inherently safer design concepts to the design and layout can identify the need for process modifivations or alternative site arrangements. Consequence analysis is introduced in this paper as a well-established methodology for facility siting and layout in chemical process industries (CPI).
