In recent times, the Risk Based Inspection (RBI) engineering approach has been extensively used in the Oil and Gas industries to maintain the plan integrity and thereby continual operation of the assets [4]. Considering the high costs due the maintenance and integrity management projects, utilizing new techniques and optimizing the strategies and methods in reducing the time and costs consumed in these fields, seems to be essential to be able to compete among other producers. [2]
This paper will present some principle in risk based inspection and its uses as a cost effective tool in reducing the risk considered to each item in an industrial plant. Basically RBI will result in saving assets by utilizing the proper methods and optimizing the inspection periods based on the data obtained from the risk assessments considered to each of the items in a plant.
