چکیده مقاله:

Objective: Larvae of Trypanorhyncha are often found from spring to summer in the viscera and the ventral trunk muscle of skipjack tuna. Trypanorhynca cestodes have a negative impact on fish processing industry. The aim of this study was to determine the infection rate of Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) fish in Persian Gulf, Iran. Method & Materials: Between June-September 2007, during a parasitological survey 400 fish in Chabahar Fish IndustryCcenter, were examined macroscopically for the presence of Trypanorhync cestodes in the body cavity, the viscera and musculature. Trypanorynchs were fixed in 10% buffered formalin for light microscopy. Results & Conclusion: Out of 400 fish examined for presence of larvae of Trypanorhyncha, 369 (92.25%) were positive. In histopathological study, the parasite was located in a cyst with a fibrotic layer and minimal inflammatory reaction. The result of this study showed a high rate of infection in Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) specially, in trunk muscles. Since this parasite is not infectious to human, it is harmless in food hygiene, although it has a negative impact on fish industry processing industry.
