چکیده مقاله:

Objective: In order to assess the viability of rearing an Indian carp, Labeo rohita, under the climatic condition of the country and also to achieve some growth normative from the larvae to fingerling stages, measures were taken to import this specie in juvenile stage, from India and cultivate them in levee ponds in Shahid Ansari Production and Propagation Centre located in Rasht, as of 2004. This study was carried out with the objective of creating species diversity and also to determine some growth normative of Indian carps in the climatic condition of Iran. Method & Materials: Labeo rohita, in fry stage, were airlifted in to the country from India, upholding all the standard airing principles and also quarantine and veterinary rules, and were transferred to Shahid Ansari Production and Propagation centre in Rasht by truck immediately. A total of 33000 fries with the average weight and length of 520 mg and 33 mm, respectively, were stocked in Earthen ponds with the density of 17 pieces per m2 in June 2004. The fry were selected randomly using cast nets and were measured for their total and fork length. Results & Conclusion: Results revealed significant growth in this species, showing an increase from the initial weight of 520 mg to 77.7±1.6 , in a 210 day period in the last month. An 18.5± 1.3 average length was also obtained during the same period. Roho weight –length correlation was defined as an E function, from which the B factor was obtained as 2.723, while the minimum individual weight was 31 g after the 7 month rearing program and the maximum was 104. (As a new record a 643-gram sample fish was also captured from one of the ponds). The ratio between the weight and length was obtained as W =0.0283x TL 2.723(r2 =0.98). The results attained from the variance analysis regarding the fish's weight gain in this 7 months indicates a significant difference in monthly growth of the fries. Condition factor during the 7 months were relatively constant (CF =1.45). Analyzing the ADG in the fries also reveals fluctuations in this period, being 0.57 g in Sep, 0.39 g in Oct and 0.73 and 0.05 g in the last months of the rearing.
