Prevalence of Streptococcusis in freshwater fishes of Chaharmahal Va Bakhtiari Province

Objective: Streptococcusis is one the important bacterial zoonosis in trout. Infected reservoirs in treated fishes, recurrent of disease after treatment and/or even after vaccination in fish farms show the necessity of more attention to this disease. In this study 7000 finger fish (average weight 150gr), referring from 365 fish farms to central laboratory of Veterinary general office in province of Chaharmahal Va Bakhtiari were investigated for Streptococcusis infectin during the period 2006-2008. Method & Materials: Samples were collected from 90 fish farms and had symptoms such as (25.7%), color darkness of body, uni or bilateral exophtalmia, hemorrhaging in eye-socket, cataract, wound and hemorrhages in fins. Paraclinical examinations, including direct smear from the lesions and bacterial culture in BA, TSI and BHI were carried out. Results & Conclusion: Streptococcus was isolated from all mentioned samples. Regarding the high prevalence of the disease in finger fish referring from trout fish farms, application of biosecurity rules is very important and imperrative to prevent and control the disease.
