Assessment of factors affecting social interaction in public spaces

Public spaces are of great importance. These spaces belong to the larger society which is physically and visually accessible to the public. The spaces are identified as either public open and closed spaces. Among a variety of public open spaces, streets and squares are more makeable as they are filled with activities and spaces so that the mixture will form a strong basis. These spaces are the main public spaces of the city, which include a large part of public life and connect the different parts and different places. However, among the different types of streets, urban streets with a stronger social dimension are studied. The streets which are located in urban centers with the strongest aspects of civilization are the basis of our study. Environmental planners, architects and urban planners have an important role in shaping communities and social groups. Through their designs, they affect security, health and social relations of citizens and our quality of life is influenced by the spaces and neighborhoods and areas which are subject to change and thus determine the value of our communities. Public spaces develop when space is designed as a place for all generations, different ages and sexes. In this study Liman Street in Kyrenia (Girne) in Northern Cyprus, is chosen for the case study. Therefore, urban identity and public place elements analyzed in notion of attachment to a location and concept of place. In this study the relationship between urban identity public places and citizens was explained by using the literature research and photo analysis
