چکیده مقاله:
Blast Furnace Slag (BFS), a by-product material of iron and steel making processes, has been mainly used as a cementations material due to its pozzolanic activity. In contrast to BFS, Electric Arc Furnace Slag (EAFS) could not be used in blended cement, because of its low amorphous silica content and high content of ferric oxides. However EAFS was studied as aggregate to be employed in Heavy Weight Concrete (HWC) because of its high specific gravity.HWC is being used in some special construction projects in which the weight of the structure is a way to achieve more stability. But segregation is one of the most conventional problems in HWC. In order to avoid segregation, preplaced aggregate concrete has been proposed. Pre-placed Aggregate concrete is produced by the injection of grout into placed coarse aggregate, in which usually admixtures such as superplasticizer and air-entraining are used.In this paper, two preplaced aggregate concrete mix proportions were made to determine the steel slag properties to be used in preplaced heavy weight concrete, compared to normal weight concrete. Accordingly, chemical and physical properties of EAFS such as water absorption, alkali-silica reaction, resistance to degradation and soundness of aggregates along with mechanical properties of preplaced EAFS aggregate concrete specimens such as compressive strength, tensile strength, and density were investigated.
