‍Community Rehabilitation Initiatives: Role of community and construction technology

International Blue Crescent (IBC) is a NGO working in response to the Bam earthquake 2003.The organization and tis partner agency CRS has worked in two earthquake rehabilitation project (Gujarat-India and Duze-Tukey) and the approach for the rehabilitation was based on capacity building of the community and involving the community in the rehabilitation process. The scope of this article is to share the experiences from the eathquake rehabilitation projects undertaken and to contribute some ideas and experience in the rehabilitation initiatives in Bam. As it is a known fact that "Earthquake doesn,t kill but badly constructed buildings kill people". So the role of the Technology and the process of implementation is a very important factor for the community rehabilitation.
