چکیده مقاله:

Reduction in NOx in light and medium duty diesel engines, without the requirement for Catalyst Converter or Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and meeting the European emission standards is an important challenge. This paper through the experimental and numerical investigation shows how intercooler reduces NOx while engine performance improved and soot formation decrease. Effects of intercooler on combustion process will be investigated. Results indicated that although the rate of premixed burning increase with using of intercooler due to higher ignition delay period but as a results of lower temperature in all combustion cycle the NOx emission decrease. Intercooling intake air was an effective technique to reduce NOx emission and have shown a reduction of NOx by 40% for some operating conditions. A combustion simulation computer programwas used in this analysis for two different operating conditions.
