چکیده مقاله:

according to the inportance of vertebal compressive fracture (VCF) role in increasing number of death and reducing patients' life expectancy and in order to decrease side effects of some medical interference such as surgery, many studies have been conducted in noninvasive prediction of vertebral compressive strength by many researches which are mostly based on intergral bone mineral density determination through dual energy X-ray absorbtiometry (DXA) or quantitative computed tomography (QCT) . due to ignorance of subtle geometric and densitmetric heterogeneity difference between various patients, exact prediction of failure occurrence is impossible. using QCT - voxel based linear finite elemnt method; crawford et.al showed that predicted vertebral compressive strength using this method has a good correlation with experimental sompressive strength. in this study we tried to predict vertebral compressive strength using QCT -voxel based nonlinear finite element method. for this purpose QCT scans were taken from 4 thoracolumbar vertebrae excised from 3 cadavers with average age of 42 years. using refrence densities of QCT standard phantom. each sample's bone mineral density (BMDqct) WAS DETERMINED.
