the relationship between time perspective and cosmetic use among women, with respect to body perception and self-esteem

Background: Time perspective is a psychological construct that contains five time orientations: negative past, positive past, fatalistic present, hedonistic present and future. TP could affect so many aspects of life. Aims: This research tried to explore the relationship between time perspective and cosmetic use in women. also self-esteem and body dysformic disorder were examined. Methods and Materials: A sample of 151 students from University of Isfahan were selected( age between 11-55, mean: 72.57) and were asked to fill out four questionnaires including: Zimbardo Time perspective inventory, Rosenberg's self-esteem Scale, body dsymorphic disorder questionnaire and amount of cosmetic use. Data were analyzed by means of SPSS and Pearson's correlation coefficient and t-test. Findings: There were some significant correlation between fatalistic TP and body perception and cosmetic use. Also makeup social acceptance was significantly correlated with hedonic TP. And there were significant differences in TP between young and not young participants. Discussion: Time perspective could affect other attitudes and vise versa. On the other hand, there is a weak relation between attitude and behavior, so it might be TP just has its impact on attitude level and not actual behavior.
