Preparation and characterization of silica and silica containing Ag nanoparticles matrix

Pure silica and silica containing Ag nanoparticles(as an antibacterial agent) matrix were prepared usingsol gel process. Characterization assays comprised analysis of matrix by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) and energy dispersive x‐ray spectroscopy (EDX). Using tetraethyl orthosilicate as a precursor of silica matrix,Ag nanoparticles as additive, HCl(0.01M) and NH4OH(1M) as catalyst, matrix with different properties obtained.Existence of new significant difference in FTIR spectra between the samples with Ag nanoparticles and without Agnanoparticles and results of EDX confirm incorporation of Ag nanoparticles in matrix.
