In the Persian Gulf environmental pollution and degradation resulting from human activities are extensive. The region’s political background is historically volatile and the recent conflicts have intensif ied the environmental issues. The formulation and implementation of a region-wide conservation plan could improve the state of the environment, promote cooperation and advance regional peace and harmony amongst the nations of the region. Various aspects of a conservation plan for the entire area of the Persian Gulf and its benefits have been discussed.
