Lack of prototype data on Cyclone Events is evident due to the infrequent nature of, and the inability to record field data during, such a devastating event. Hence numerical modelling has become a widely acclaimed tool among Port planners to obtain the vital design/planning parameters. This Paper discusses the use of numerical modelling to obtain wave, current and water level information resulting from cyclones for port planning and the combined use of such data with two-dimensional physical modelling to ascertain the structural stability of harbour structures.
