Environment al issue s in port planning

The objective of this paper is to provide a practical overview of the range of environmental planning and design factors for port project. Typical environmental control and mitigation measures are also outlined. The potential scope of environmental factors for port projects is enormous and the critical factors affecting feasibility and cost of each project very greatly. In addition to the technical requirements of good engineering practice , the environments of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) depend on the governing national , regional , and local environmental guidelines and regulation .port development is sometimes conceived and driven largely by macroeconomic and political considerations and often involves significant adverse environmental impacts. In the past, environmental factors have sometimes received minor consideration in port planning and design. The importance of this factor cannot be understated. This article includes overviews concerning dredging - related environmental factors regional environmental impacts environmental controls and mitigation measures for petroleum terminals, dry bulk terminals, and container terminals.
