Principles of anti seismic system in dockside ship to shore container cranes and their testing methods

Our Country, Iran, is one of the first most vulnerable regions in case of seismic activities and has suffered several devastating earthquakes which caused huge loss of human and financialresources. Huge earthquake incidents by catastrophic damages to the port and marine industries around the world made designers and engineers revisit and reconsider their primitive designs and find efficient ways of dampen the destructive shakes and waves of seismic activities on portalmachineries especially large dockside ship to shore container gantry cranes. In this article the reactions of cranes to the seismic forces are discussed in details. Also the major anti seismic mechanisms, the earthquake waves dampening approaches and ways to decrease cranes vulnerability to seismic forces are explained in details.
