Comparison of Mental Health of Smoking and Non-smoking StudentsUniversity of Sistan and Baluchestan

This study was conducted with the goal of comparing the mental health of smoking and non-smoking students of ZahedanUniversity. The research method is descriptive-survey. The population of the present study includes all students indormitories of Zahdean Univesity in the year 2011 and by means of the available sampling method, a sample was selectedwith a size of 60 individuals among the two groups under study and the study was conducted on them. Each group covers30 individuals among which one group of students are smokers and one group of students are non-smokers. In this study,the GHQ questionnaire was used. In this study, after the collection of data by means of questionnaire, the data wereanalyzed for the rejection or confirmation of the statistical hypotheses by means of independent T-test and the one-sidedvariance analysis. The findings indicated that there is a difference between mental health of smoking and non-smokingstudents. In all subscales of mental health questionnaire, smokers were in a worse situation compared with the group ofnon-smokers. Also, the results showed that the mental health is the same among students based on age
