Study of the Minnesota Multiphasic PersonalityInventory(MMPI) in Extortionists in the Central Prison of Mashhad in 2014

Introduction: Psychiatric disorders is one of the causes of disease among prisoners and a common reason fortemporary and permanent separation from the family, and the most common causes of these differences,which leads to permanent abandonment from the life situations, are personality disorders. The fundamentalgoal of this research is to study the personality characteristics of the extortion prisoners in Mashhad CentralPrison.Methods: This study in terms of purpose is applied and in terms of method is cross-sectional. Thestudy population of this research consists of all extortionists in Mashhad prison in 2014, which by the methodof random sampling, 50 of them were selected. In order to collect information, the 71 question-short form ofThe Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) was used. Then the data collected was finallyanalyzed in 11 scales.Findings: This study showed that the prevalence of personality disorders is more in themajority of the scales in extortion prisoners compared to the normal population.Conclusion: The findings ofthis study recommend the requirement of the use of psychology and psychiatry services in prisons to preventthe extortion crime.
