چکیده مقاله:

Waste disposal in Iran by landfilling remains an integral part of waste management with approximately 13.5 Mt of waste annually placed in landfill. In İran, waste disposal istraditionally carried out. Traditional disposal includes digging in the ground in order to make holes and then filling them with waste. In this approach leachate produced which is the combination of various kinds of chemical materials and also is too dangerous leak intosoil and groundwater and as a consequent of this phenomenon, it leads to the spread of pollution from disposal site. On the other hand, in the approach of sanitary and engineeringdisposal which provides impermeable suitable layers, plays a significant role in impeding the entrance of leachate to the environment and also in controlling pollution. The most important impermeable layers used in landfills is compacted clay liners. In mostearthworks, the strength and degree of compaction are the controlling factors but in the construction of clay liners for landfill projects a low permeability requirement presents anadditional burden on the selection and emplacement of suitable materials. This paper presents details on the background and application of clay liners in Iran’s landfills, sourceevaluation, engineering and permeability of the clay fill. The paper also makes reference to the attenuation properties of clay liners.
