This two-part paper surveys the power system performance in developing and transition countries. In this second part, the consequences of the rapid macroeconomic policychanges, their associated shocks and the long-term subsequent sever crisis of 1980’s and early 1990’s period, for energy sector oftransition countries are discussed. Considering their specific position and diversity of typical problems, power systems of Russiaand Ukraine are selected for study. The paper covers a widerange of prob-lems including composition of generation units and their parameters, planned and ongoing projects, composition of loads, quality of power and level of losses.
