assessment and control of welding defects and dimensions by machine vision

arc welding is a widely used technology in manufacturing industry . Automatic inspection decreases the cost of inspection process and improves the inspection quality in this paper a flexible vision -based quality control system is developed to detect defects such as cavity on the weld surface and the major dimensions of the weld is also measured automatically the proposed system is used to capture images of the welded zone then applies various image processing and computer vision algorithms to firstly improves the quality of images and consequently recognize defects based on which a decision on accept -reject is made. the system developed uses a digital camera with front lighting image processing routines have been developed within lab view NI programming environment.
