a study on the effect of convection modeling on the distribution and magnitude of welding temperature fields and residual stresses

prediction of temperature fields in welding is of great importance good prediction of temperature fields is necessary for proper estimation of welding distortions residual stresses and microstructures one of the most important components in thermal simulation of welding is the modeling of convection actually the intense heat around the weld area and temperature gradients through the work pieces invoke such a model to predict the heat loss accurately this paper provides proper data to compare different modeling types and finally proposes an empirical model for the heat transfer coefficient . three dimensional uncoupled thermal mechanical analyses have been performed using the abaqus software.
