The Democratization of Iraq: Ukraine’s Unexpected Contribution

This paper presents a scientific, non-official look at the outcomes of Ukraine’s participation in the United States-led anti-Saddam Hussein coalition. It came as somewhat of a surprise to many observers that a state in transition, with a vague foreign policy but strong military traditions and a significant peace-keeping record, managed to become a successful contributor to reviving the Iraqi armed forces and providing security in the region for which it was delegated responsibility.
