This paper uses three examples to illustrate the importance of recognising and managing geological complexity and uncertainty in rock
engineering. The first example discussed the use of rock mass classifications. The second case study reports on a rock slope stability case study along a road cut. The third case study refers to a 3D numerical model in an underground mine, where it was necessary to account for the presence of two major faults.
