Nowadays finite element models are widely used in industry either for dynamic response analysis or for structural modification. The results of FE analysis are strongly dependent upon the accuracy of FE modeling. On the other hand, there are always elements in a mechanical structure which prevent accurate FE modeling. Among them are joints. Joints introduce extra flexibility and damping to the structures containing them and hence need to be modeled precisely. The models presented for joints, if they are to be precise, have to satisfy the requirements constructed by doing experiments on joints. This paper deals with modeling bolted lap-joints.
