In the present study, mechanical symptoms of the thyroid gland are extracted on the neck surface with the main purpose of making mechanical distinction between normalthyroid gland and cancerous minor. To this end. a three dimensional realistic model of the human neck with the internal organs and tissues, including the trachea, thyroidgland, muscles and fat, and the skin is constructed based on the CT-scan image of a middle aged man with a cancerous thyroid tumor on the lateral side of the rightlobe. A uniaxial compression test is condttcted on the 3D model through applying a static strain to the neck skin and the resultant compressive stress map is obtained. Variation of the stress map is obtained by varying the malignancy degree of the cancerous tumor and also by changing the tumor type from malignant to benign. The loss ofsymmetry between the right and left lobes of the thyroid gland as a result of tumor existence is visible in the stress map. Furthermore, results showed that despite high elastic modulus of trachea cartilage, the emerged stress on the skin for the cancerous papillary tumor is 1.15 times more than the stress Value above the trachea. Consequently, mechanical imaging not only can be used as the method for diagnosing the thyroid tumors but also can detect their approximate location.
