چکیده مقاله:
Magneto-rheological Nanocomposites (MRNCs), consisting of carbonyl iron particles with nanometer dimension embedded in a silicone rubber matrix, display a variety of interesting smart physical properties. The modulus of MRNCs can be controlled by strength of magnetic fields. The MRNCs are proposed to manufacture newer products of less weight like miniature grippers. The development of new products requires the characterization of the rheological and mechanical behavior of the materials and the correct preparation for further applications. A laser setup is used to prepare the nanosized carbonyl iron particles. The 10 μm carbonyl iron particles are ablated to 23 nanometers using CO2 laser setup. The MRNCs is fabricated under isotropic condition and characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopes (FESEM). In the course of material development, the magnetic attraction is compared among four nanocomposite samples containing the different percentages of nano-sized carbonyl iron particles. The mechanical property tests are conducted to determine the hardness and the elastic modulus. The rheological tests are performed to study the curing aspects of MRNCs. The magnetic properties of MRNCs are practically measured and recorded. Through successful development of MRNCs, the produced MR nanocomposites are used in its potential application for a miniature gripper. Developments of MR nano-composite along with design of gripper enhance performance of micro-mechatronics system used in medical operation and micro- material transportation as well.
