The Relationship between HTLV1 and Cervical Cancer

The relationship between leukemia and lymphoma adult T-cell virus and Tropical spasticmyelopathy been proved but its association with other diseases and especially cervicalcancer is discussed. Due to the endemic of the HTLV1 in the North East of Iran (khorasan)and high prevalence of cervical cancer , this study aimed to investigate the possibleassociation HTLV1 and cervical cancer was performed. This case - control study on 49patients with newly diagnosed cervical cancer and 100 healthy women referred to hospitalsOmid and Ghaem during two years has been done. HTLV1 virus in all cases were assessedby ELISA with diagnostic kits Bio rad and western blot tests were used for positive cases inELISA test. The two groups were matched for age and reproductive factors. . In the casegroup, 6/1% and in the control group 2% Were positive. That there was no statisticallysignificant difference between the two groups (p=0/362). The results of this study show thatthe HTLV1 can not be considered as a risk factor for cervical cancer .
