چکیده مقاله:

Bionics is a bridge between biology and technology, and deployable structures in architecture as a technical subject can be developed by the implementation of biological principles such as the minimum use of materials for the creation of the most useful structural form or the effective way of force resistance found in natural structures. Deployable mechanisms in nature can be seen in two main areas: the growth process of plant organs (leaves, flowers…) and the active motion or locomotion organs of animals. The mechanisms used for these transformations and deformations can be used for the creation of new deployable structures in architecture. The purpose of this study is to investigate and evaluate the application of the transformation mechanisms used in natural structures especially Iris Barbata for deployable architectural structures. This research is to find innovative solutions for the creation of transformable and flexible architectural structures and spaces. In order to do this, we started with studying the behavior and geometrical characteristics of Iris Barbata. Then we reach to the abstract pattern after passing of 3 stages; 1. Free-hand sketches 2. The proposal and the prediction of their applications into architecture 3. The examination of the relationship between geometry of the Barbata and the proposed architectural application. Finally with finding the concept of the deployable structure, we do sequential modifications and develop detailed design drawings.
