چکیده مقاله:
Through the development and usage of high-strength materials, the design of more flexible bridges, which result in higher deflection and lower frequency, is unavoidable. Numerical studies show that lower frequency decreases bridge dynamic response while higher deflection increases dynamic response. AASHTO Standard Specifications limit live load deflection to L/800 for general bridges and L/1000 for bridges that are used by pedestrians. The results of other studies show that the limitation of deflection does not necessarily reduce bridge vibration. Thus, there is a need for a more rational bridge vibration control guidelines that enhances structural performance and human comfort while allowing for application of high strength materials. That is the purpose of this ongoing study to develop the knowledge base with the aim of attaining such a guideline.
