Production of Single Cell Protein (SCP) from Sugarcane Bagasse in Solid State Fermentation (SSF)

Single cell protein (SCP) was produced from sugarcane bagasse with saccharomyces cerevisiae in solid state fermentation. Tray bioreactor for solid state fermentation was used. Some variables that affect in process was optimized. Bagasse pretreatment done with NaOH solution. Protein yield and cellulotic activity was determined. Among the extraction buffers used carbonate-bicarbonate buffer at pH 10 was found to be most efficient in extracting out proteins. The optimum condition found to be 350 C bioreactor temperature. Bagasse pretreatment with 2% (w/v) NaOH solution gave better results. Maximum protein yield was obtained 13.4 % (gr/gr initial substrate).
