چکیده مقاله:

Economically significant quantities of ethane and a mixture of propane and butane commonly called as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) may be recovered from the existing production of natural gas in Bangladesh. At present, most of the gas fields in Bangladesh are using dehydration plants like Silica gel and Glycol for water and condensate removal from the gas stream in production system. This system of gas processing is causing a loss of approximately 28114 tones/year of ethane and 16990 tones/year of LPG in the process (sales) gas, as estimated from only five gas fields. The value of this amount of ethane after conversion to ethylene is about 42 million USD and that of LPG is about 6 million USD. Nine out of twenty-two gas fields contain adequate amount of ethane ranging from 1.77% to 4.57% of the gas composition. Ethane, after cracking into ethylene, may be used as raw material in Petrochemical Industries and LPG may be used as fuel gas. Installation of Turbo expander with molecular sieve plant may recover more than 132,000 tones/year of ethane and 119,000 tones/year of LPG from the selected higher hydrocarbon rich gas fields. Ethane may be processed in ethane cracker plant to produce ethylene of about 198 million USD in international market. Ethylene may be exported to earn foreign currency or may be used in petrochemical industry to produce polyethylene and the final product: plastic. Ethylene may also be used to produce other petrochemical products. The amount of LPG that may be recovered from the process gas has an estimated value of about 43 million USD and may be used as fuel gas in residential/commercial cooking, transportation and other industries of the local market. Briefly, recovery of ethane from the process gas in various gas-fields has great prospect for earning significant amount of foreign currency or setting-up petrochemical industries. Recovery of LPG may fulfill a part of the total energy requirement of the country. Recovery of these gases is essential for future economic development of Bangladesh.
