چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Nowadays, cell therapy has opened a new windowfor treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Adipose-derived stemcells (ASCs) have shown significant anti-inflammatory, therapeutic andtrophic potential. In this study, we have designed an experiment to assesscombination therapy of ASCs and sulfasalazine (as a reference drug forIBD treatment) on experimental colitis model. Methods: Acute colitis in rat induced by intracolonic administrationof 50 mg/kg trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS). Rats were dividedinto five groups: control group, TNBS group, sulfasalazine group, ASCgroup, ASC + sulfasalazine group. Groups with ASC received a singleintraperitoneal injection of ASCs 3 hours after colitis induction andgroups with Sulfasalazine received a daily dose of sulfasalazine (30 mg/kg). Body weight, disease activity index (DAI), colon length, colon weightto length ratio were measured. Results: Coadministration of ASC + sulfasalazine significantly suppressedTNBS‑induced body weight loss, colon length shortening and decreasedthe colon weight to length ratio. Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that ASCs as a newpromising therapeutic option for inflammatory diseases are able to showpotent anti-inflammatory effects on colitis when co-administered with alow dose of sulfasalazine.
