چکیده مقاله:

Observations suggest that dolphin sonar, echolocation, functions well in the very shallow, reverberant, near-shore region of the ocean, and significantly out-performs man-made systems under such conditions. This paper explores systems with model based on established sonar principles, and using data from bottlenose dolphin. The signals ofdolphin sonar system have been simulated with bottlenose dolphins pulse parameters. The aim of this paper is toconsider which, if any, might be applied in bio-inspired sonar to solve the problems of shallow water operation. Theresults of this research show that dolphins possess the most sophisticated of all sonar for short ranges and shallow water where reverberation and clutter echoes are high. The critical feature of the dolphin sonar is the capability of discriminating and recognizing complex targets in a highly reverberant and noisy environment. The dolphin’s detectionthreshold in reverberation occurs at a small echo-to reverberation ratio. The high -resolution property of the animal’secholocation signals and the high dynamic range of its auditory system are important factors in their excellent discrimination capabilities. Finally it is suggested to extend the results of this research to build a new sonar system based on the echolocation of dolphin.
