Clay Swelling: A Critical Review of 05 Years of Research

Clay swelling is considered to be a major cause for the formation of damage. In this paper, the mechanisms of clay swelling, properties and behavior of clay minerals, experimental detection methods of clay swelling, various methods to predict clay swelling and effective strategies for selection of suitable clay stabilizers were presented. Various materials that act as clay swelling inhibitors over 05 years ago are brought at the end section of this study and the key results from these investigations are reviewed.
