Relationship between Self-Control and Coping Styles of High School Female Students

Objective: coping styles are the continual effort of people to adapt to unbalanced situation. Coping styles are the ways of coping with life stresses. Objective of this research is to study relationship between coping styles and self-control of the students.Method: research method is of correlation type. The statistical population of the research includes third year students of high school. The sample size is 200 people who were selected with multistage cluster sampling and responded to two Endler & Parker’s Coping Inventory for Stressful Situation and Nik Manesh’s self-control questionnaires. Findings: results showed that there was positive and significant correlation between the problem-oriented coping style and self-control and also significant and negative correlation between avoidance-oriented coping style and emotional-focused coping style and self-control. Results of the stepwise regression analysis also indicate that variable of the problem-oriented coping style had the highest effect on self-control. Conclusion: use of the problem-oriented coping style can help improve self-control of the students.
