The first report of Stirellus lahorensis (Distant, 1918) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) from Iran, Sistan & Balouchestan province

Family Cicadellidae belong to suborder Auchenorrhyncha and is one of the largest families of Hemiptera,bearing about 20,000 valid species, worldwide. This species belongs to the subfamily Deltocephalinae andthe Tribe Stenometopiini. This tribe is one of little known groups in Iran. The species of S. bicolor (Van. D)was previously recorded from Iran. During sampling carried out to the study of leafhoppers fauna in Sistan &Balouchestan provice, one specimen of genus Stirellus was collected in Iranshahr on september 2010. Thisspecimen recognized as Stirellus lahorensis and Dr. James Zahniser confirmed the identification. There issome variation in this species in the length of the vertex and in the curvature of its lateral margins. Forexample, the lateral margins of the vertex are slightly incurved in the type of S. lahorensis and the headlength is shown slightly longer than that shown for S. jhokensis. There is also evidently some variation in thelength of the aedeagal shaft. This species have been recoreded from Pakistan and India, and is a new recordfor Iranian leafhoppers fauna.
