Compacting of overhead poker transmission lines can be helpful in solving diverse problems, such as reduction of land and forest losses, decrease of the line's environmental impact zones, improvement of its electrical performance. Sometimes a number of problems can be solved
simultaneously, but it is always highly important to identify priorities for adequate designing of the overhead line and validated selection of its
principal components, including bundle conductors, type and dimensions of the tangent tower, etc. Because the emphasis of this seminar is on longdistance EHV power transmission, compacting matters will be dealt with in the perspective of increasing the transfer capability of. such long-distance lines.
