The combustion of sulphur-bearing residual fuels produces amounts of SO, which although very small, can seriously influence the dewpoint temperature of the flue gases. If the flue gas temperature at any point in the ducating falls below the dewpoint temperature then plant corrosion and acid smut emission will result.
