Electrical insulation paper has been aged under controlled conditions. The degradation rates were measured for cotton and Kraft paper in oil at three temperatures, 120-160oC. The furans produced during the ageing process were measured using High Performance Liquid Chromatography. The effect of oxygen and water on the production of furans was investigated. The relationship t Between the furan concentration in tho oil and the change of Degree of Polymerisation of the paper was also examined.
