An Excursion into Solar Photovoltaic Energy

The production of electricity f rom photovoltaics(PV) continues to attract worldwide interest, most recently as a power source for distributed energy generation. Today's photovoltaic systems are already being used effectively for smaller power needs in remote applications. The objectives of this paper are to review the photovolt aic energy technology, manufacturing, cost, current status and future prospects for solar PV energy in the context of overall energy trends and market development. The paper focuses on photovoltaic energy, not only because of the author's background but also because the author believes the development of the market for PV-energy raises the key issues facing all renewable sources of energies.
