The Role of Shame and Guilt Emotions and Moral Disengagement in Predicting Marital Adjustment

The main objective of the current study was investigating the role of shame and guiltproneness and moral disengagement in predicting marital adjustment. The design of the studywas descriptive-correlative. Using simple randomized sampling 150 individuals (75 femalesand 75 males) of all people living in Ardabil city were selected to participate in the study. Allparticipants were asked to complete the following measures; Spanier’s Dyadic Adjustmentscale Tangney’s TOSCA-3 and research made questionnaire of moral disengagement.Descriptive and inferential statistic indicators were used to analyze the collected data. Theresults of regression and correlation analysis suggested a negative relationship betweenmarital adjustment and guilt and shame and moral disengagement. In addition, shame andguilt proneness factors showed a negative correlation with marital adjustment suggesting thatthe increase in shame and guilt proneness results in decrease in marital adjustment.
