On the Solutions for Challenging Issues in Applied Linguistics

Applied linguistics can be defined as a discipline of design: it solves language problems by suggesting a plan, or blueprint, to handle them. The designed solutions to language problems that are the stoke-in-trade of applied linguistics have great effects on improving people learning in second language acquisition. The article shows how this discipline has struggled with issues in language teaching and what solutions suggested by applied linguistics. Applied linguists try to offer solutions to real-world problems in which language is a central issue. Applied linguistics can not only test applicability and replicability of linguistic theory and description, but also question and challenge them where they are found wanting. The method section of this article focuses on a descriptive study of different journals to find the suggested solutions of applied linguistics on some issues in language teaching. The findings include results of applied linguistic researches on some challenging issues such as vocabulary, writing, discourse analysis and etc.
